Creating iSCSI Disk in Windows 2012 R2 - Virtualization

Creating iSCSI Disk in Windows 2012 R2
Open Server Manager >> Add Roles and Features Wizard
Click Next,
Select the Local server or Remote server to install the iSCSI Target Server Role. Expand the “File and Storage Services” then Select “iSCSI Target Server”
Click Next to continue..
Click to Install.
Once successfully installed, Click to Close.
Creating iSCSI Disks
To create iSCSI disks you will need to run the following wizard once or few times it will depending on your disk requirement.
Open “Server Manager”  and “Expand File and Storage Services”
Click on iSCSI (You will not see any disks on pane at the first time)
Click on Tasks and “New iSCSI virtual Disk” or can use Right click to access the menu.
Validate the Server name that you are going to setup the iSCSI disks
Select the Storage Location that you want to place the iSCSI Virtual Disks. OR you can use a another location for it by using “Type a custom path”
Type a meaningful name for the Disk, it is a good idea to type a description for identification
Select a Virtual Disk type based on your application
Fixed size – Is recommended for better performance
If you already have iSCSI disks setup use “Existing iSCSI target” if not select “New iSCSI target”
Using Existing iSCSI Target – If you decided to use new iSCSI target go to new iSCSI target section below.
Select the target and click next to continue
Click Create to create the disk
Check the progress of disk creation will depending on the size of the disk and disk configuration.
Check the status of the Process, Click Close
New iSCSI Target
Select new iSCSI target and click next to continue the wizard
Type a meaningful name for the iSCSI target and click next to continue
Add the servers that will use\connect to this iSCSI targets, you can change these later by going into iSCSI target properties.
You can browse or enter Ip address, to add multiple address you will need to click ok and then press the add button again.
Once you are added all the Ips required click next to continue
IF you are concern about high security you can use following authentication methods
NOTE: I am not covering those with this doc
Click Close to complete the wizard
You will now see the iSCSI disk that you created above step
Setup iSCSI initiator on the Cluster Server
Open Administrative Tools >> Open iSCSI Initiator
Click “Yes” to start the iSCSI service.
Make sure you Disable the Windows firewall (Not recommended`) or Open up the TCP Port 2360
If you have multiple iSCSI targets you will need to add them all.
If you need to attached multiple iSCSI targets you will need to all them all.
Open the Disk Management and you will see the newly created disk, you will need to make it Online, Initiate, Format and Assign a meaningful drive letter. I will not going to cover all setup here.
